For Max Liebermann, the beer garden is far more than just a place to drink and linger – for him, it is a stage for modern social life and an ideal subject for his light-filled, impressionistic style of painting. Particularly well-known is his painting ‘Münchner Biergarten’ (1884), which forms part of the collection of the Neue Pinakothek in Munich.
