Descrizione
The sculptures stand in symbolic contrast to one another. The allegory of the putto blowing soap bubbles symbolises the vanity and transience of existence; the putto with the cornucopia symbolises wealth and eternal abundance. The contrapposto pose emphasises the movement. This type of allegorical sculpture is very characteristic of early 18th-century Flanders. The artist was certainly inspired by the engravings of Goltzius (1558–1617) as well as by the sculptures of Jan-Peter van Baurscheit the Elder (1669–1728).
