Description
Plate 8, from: The Large Passion. A very fine, well-inked Meder proof impression, before the text edition of 1511, printing very evenly and strong with great clarity and definition, allowing the viewer to appreciate the subtlety and detail of the delicately carved woodcut. For the prints before the text edition, Dürer used much finer paper, which allowed for much more detailed printing. Trimmed to the borderline. – The small margin gaps, already described by Meder for early prints, retouched. With unobtrusive restorations to the upper right and left edges, otherwise in exellent condition. Very rare in this early impression!
