The present red chalk drawing is clearly in the tradition of French landscape drawings of the 18th century. The chosen detail with the geometric tunnel entrances is idiosyncratic. They illustrate how human industry, especially in the age of industrialisation, made more and more interventions in nature necessary. - Faint foxing throughout. Remnants of former mounting on the reverse along the sheet edges. In good condition in keeping with its age.
