Jacob Carl Stauder
The Virgin with the Infant Child
Description
According to Dr Thomas Onken, this Madonna painting is a characteristic work from the Lucerne period. He considers the moulding of the physiognomies, the position of the Virgin's hands, the draping of the robes and the predominant two-tone of red and blue to be quite typical. The artist was at the height of his creative powers in the 1720s with numerous commissions from churches in the Lake Constance region and Upper Swabia. With a confirmation from Dr Thomas Onken, Kreuzlingen, dated 25.11.1996 (in the original).
