Otolia Kraszewska
Bouquet of flowers in a porcelain vase
Description
Otolia Countess Kraszewska was one of the first artists of her generation to pursue a professional career and earn her living independently through her art. She came from a Polish noble family from Zhytomyr and received her training at the Academy of Fine Arts in St. Petersburg under Ivan Aivazovsky. In 1880, she moved to Munich at the suggestion of Franz Roubaud, where she took private lessons from the Polish painter Władysław Czachórski. Kraszewska worked successfully as an illustrator for several decades. She designed title leaves and vignettes for the Meggendorfer Blätter and for the magazine Jugend. She was represented several times at exhibitions in Munich's Glaspalast.
