Max Slevogt
Rocks at Neukastel with a small seated figure (Nini)
Description
In 1914, Max Slevogt settled at the Slevogthof near Neukastel in the Palatinate, which remained his main place of work and residence until his death in 1932. The surrounding landscape became a central motif of his later work.
Here we see Antonie, the artist’s wife, sitting on a sandstone rock. ‘Nini’ is incorporated into the landscape scenes in numerous works from this period. The small oil painting hung in Slevogt’s bedroom at the Slevogthof until his death.
