Maria Elisabeth of Bavaria (1784–1849) was the daughter of Duke Wilhelm of Bavaria and his wife Maria Anna. She married the Frenchman Louis-Alexandre Berthier, thereby becoming Princess of Wagram and Duchess of Neuchâtel. She is shown wearing the Order of St Elisabeth, a ladies’ order founded in 1766, into which only Catholic ladies of ancient collegiate nobility were admitted.
