Preliminary study of the figures painted in grisaille for the lower right spandrel of the ceiling fresco ‘Triumph of Clementia’ in the Palazzo Altieri in Rome (1674). The collection of the Metropolitan Museum of Art, New York (Inv. No. 65.206) holds a study in black chalk of two further figures in grisaille from this painted fresco frame. – Isolated minor brown spots. Barely noticeable creases along the edges of the sheet, slightly creased from handling. In good condition for its age. The attribution was confirmed by Dieter Graf, Bibliotheca Hertziana, Rome, and Dr Stella Rudolph, Florence (1991).
