Johann Nepomuk Ender, a well-known portrait painter in Vienna, favoured painting elegantly dressed and adorned noblewomen. His works are renowned for their attention to detail and the influence of miniature painting. Ender became a popular portraitist at the Viennese court and produced several portraits of members of the Houses of Wittelsbach and Habsburg. The watercolour was reproduced in a lithograph by Robert Theer.
