Wilhelm von Pfalz-Birkenfeld-Gelnhausen (1701–1760) was Count Palatine of Pfalz-Zweibrücken-Birkenfeld zu Gelnhausen and Imperial Field Marshal. As the youngest son of Duke Johann Karl von Birkenfeld-Gelnhausen, he was born of the Duke’s second marriage to Marie Esther von Witzleben. He entered Austrian service in 1729 and was wounded at the Battle of Mollwitz. In 1742, he defeated French troops under Jacques de Boufflers and drove them out of Tein. In 1743, he became General of the Cavalry in Dutch service. He accompanied Emperor Franz I to his coronation in Frankfurt am Main, was appointed Imperial Field Marshal in 1754 and Governor of Namur in 1757. He was a recipient of the Electoral Palatinate Order of St Hubert.
