Descrizione
A superb lifetime impression of the first state, with strong burr on the horizontal lines in the bottom left corner and on the vertical lines in the bottom right corner. Before the slipped stroke at the level of the left eye. Study heads, known in Dutch as tronies, held particular significance for Rembrandt. Though they often appear to be drawn from life, these expressive character studies are in fact imaginative creations. What mattered to the artist was capturing striking facial features or unusual attire—such as the bearded man’s distinctive fur-trimmed cap. Trimmed to or cut on the platemarks. – Very faint, barely noticeable foxing, otherwise in very good condition.
