Descrizione
A fine lifetime impression of the third state, with strong burr and printed with delicate tone and fine wiping scratches in the sky. Nowell-Usticke classifies this with a 'RR' – 'Rare'. 'A very attractive small landscape'. With the distant hilly landscape added behind the farm buildings in the centre left. In this etching, Rembrandt captures the quiet immensity of the Dutch landscape, rendering a milkman and his dog almost incidental within the vast, atmospheric surroundings. The absence of a central focal point invites a sense of endless space, reflecting both the flat geography of the Netherlands and the deep connection between the Dutch people and the land they shaped. Thread margins or trimmed to the platemark. A little wash on the milkman. – The corner tips have been neatly rounded. Old paper hinges in the upper corners on the verso from a previous mounting. Otherwise in good condition. Very rare!
