Christian Rohlfs spent the last decade of his life mainly in Ascona on Lake Maggiore. It was here that he produced a series of landscape motifs depicting, among other things, the striking steep slopes of the lake. The mountains and the lake are no longer topographical studies, but rather the artist’s colourful visions.
