Descrizione
• Concentrated, highly reduced visual language with subtle lines and colouring
• Recurring Jershöft motif as a central theme in the oeuvre since 1933
• Small figures as a scale and counterpoint in the vastness of the landscape

Feininger constructs his composition very subtly – with a few black lines and smudged chalk, he suggests a dune landscape and three small figures.
The model for this sheet, which is thought to be one of Feininger’s last drawings, is a sketch dated 15 October 1933 showing a view of the dunes at Jershöft. In a watercolour from the same year, Feininger developed this motif into a finished composition for the first time. He later revisited the motif on several occasions in watercolours and paintings.
