Jean Joseph Xavier Bidauld
The Valley of Civita Castellana
Descrizione
Much like Tivoli, Civita Castellana, a village in the Lazio region, was a popular destination for artists in the early 19th century. The rugged landscape with its red volcanic rocks and the radiant Italian light offer a wealth of charming motifs. The work was probably created in the artist’s studio in Paris, based on studies from Bidauld’s first trip to Italy.
