From the estate of the artist's heirs; Kunsthandlung Friedrich Axt, Dresden, stamped four times on the reverse of the wooden back panel of the formerly framed painting and on an adhesive label with the gallery owner's handwritten confirmation of authenticity dated 25 October 1923 (next to a red, unidentifiable stamp); private collection, Bavaria.

Dr Gerd Spitzer, Bad Harzburg, confirmed the authenticity of this painting in 1994 whilst preparing for the Gille exhibition in Dresden and Bremen, having examined the original.
