The painting is thought to be a collaborative work by Max Slevogt (landscape) and his brother-in-law Walter Finkler, depicting Slevogt from behind whilst painting in the vicinity of Neukastel. Max Slevogt lived with his family, his parents-in-law and the families of his two brothers-in-law, Walter Finkler and Alfred Greisinger, at the Slevogthof near Neukastel in the Palatinate.
