Description
The depiction of a reclining female nude radiates a melancholic and introspective mood. Mueller does not show us the "Reclining Woman" in a sensually provocative manner, but in a contemplative, resting pose. The figure is alone with her thoughts, which lends the painting a contemplative depth. Otto Mueller dispenses with naturalistic details, simplifies the forms and uses a delicate ochre tone in the colouring, which harmoniously emphasises the tranquillity of this composition.
Rare. Karsch mentions a total of only 9 impressions for all three states of printing, of which only 6 were known to him.
