An uncommonly fine, black, early lifetime impression of the fourth state, after the addition of a few short diagonal lines in front of the sitter's neck. Trimmed within the platemark. Touches of grey wash. – Paper slightly time-stained with very faint foxing. A few small, carefully restored tears in the corners, otherwise in good condition.
