Adriaen van Ostade
Peasant in a Pointed Fur Cap
Description
A fine impression of a character study, which does not depict an individual likeness but rather embodies a social type — likely a sailor or fisherman, as commonly seen on the streets of Haarlem during the period. The figure wears a pointed cap, a distinctive accessory often associated with this class – Trimmed to the borderline. The upper and lower left corners skillfully repaired; the upper right corner restored. A few minute spots, otherwise in good condition. Impressions of this quality are rare.
