Description
Model for the lithograph by Gustav Kraus (Pressler 371) with the depiction varying only in minor details (palm tree instead of deciduous tree at front left). The attribution to the artist was made by Dr Brigitte Reinhardt, Ulm (copy of expertise dated 3 October 2006). The sheet shows a different viewpoint than the large-format painting in the Bayerische Staatsgemäldesammlungen, Munich, which was completed in 1835, but the line and wash characterise the drawing as an autograph work, which von Hess presumably created on site and executed pictorially. - Small backed tear in the area of the sky. Isolated faint staining. The lower right corner torn out and repainted on backing card. In good condition.
