François Lemoine
View of Rome
Description
This study, as spontaneous as it is precise, was probably created during a trip to Italy, which took Lemoine to Rome and Venice in 1723 and 1724. It shows a densely built-up cityscape, dominated by a campanile. His drawing style is characterised by the bold hatching along the roof ridges and the foliage laid out with energetic, looping lines. - Minor foxing in places. On the reverse with adhesive residue from former mounting; paper somewhat roughened there. In good condition for its age.
