Pieter de Molijn
Bird Trapping on a Meadow
Description
At least fifteen drawings by Pieter Molijn depict bird-trapping with nets on meadows or in dunes - sometimes as a central motif, sometimes as an animating element in the background (cf. Beck 142-157). Figures often appear in the foreground, mostly families, whose gaze is directed towards the action in the centre ground. Most of these scenes were created around 1654/55; undated works are also likely to date from this period. - Paper minimally darkened along the sheet edges, otherwise in fine condition.
