Description
A very fine impression with lovely tonal balances, trimmed to or just outside the borderline. Lehrs knows of a total of about 50 impressions. Saint John is placed opposite five female figures, of whom only two are physically visible. The other three largely disappear behind them or merge in the deep shadow of the terrain. Christ appears stretched out, the mourning women are calm and composed and show little emotion. The static division of the terrain also suggests that this is one of the earliest sheets from the Passion series. – Verso with remnants and traces of former mounting, the upper corners on the back with paper thinning. In the upper right corner a faint stain, otherwise in good condition.
