The handwritten inscription ‘Hochwohlgeb. Baronesse von Dreifuss’ can be found on the stretcher. This is presumably the artist of this work, which likely depicts a member of the House of Wittelsbach. Carla Baroness Dreifuss is mentioned in an exhibition catalogue from 1893 at the Künstlerhaus Wien. In Kreuth stands Villa Baron Dreyfuß, which was built in 1894.
