Katharina Grosse

Description
- Early composition painted with a brush on firm paper
- Of overwhelming color intensity
- One of the most sought-after artists on the international art market today, represented by Max Hetzler in Berlin and Gagosian in New York. The Staatsgalerie Stuttgart is currently showing the exhibition "Katharina Grosse - The Sprayed Dear"
This early, particularly dense work on paper reveals the special quality of Katharina Grosse's work: she constantly explores the possibilities of abstract painting anew by deliberately ignoring the limitations of format and medium. The present work is also a convincing example of this "boundless" painting. Brushstrokes of color form a depth-staggered over- and underlay of luminous color. As is typical of Katharina Grosse's style, the all-over could be continued endlessly beyond the edges of the sheet. Due to the smooth nature of the material, the color remains on the picture carrier and the superimposed layers of paint develop a physical presence that lends the work an additional, almost sculptural dimension.
The work is registered in the artist's archive under the work number 2002/3108S. We would like to thank the Wunderblock Foundation (Katharina Grosse Archive) for their kind information.
